I just knew I'd like this album as soon as I saw the cover which shows the band in a ' Reservoir Dogs' type pose in front of a Las Vegas type backdrop. The inside of the booklet is good too. I love it when a band goes to town on presentation, and for me that makes the whole thing much more interesting.
Musically the band are a tongue in cheek mix of surf style guitar riffs and sexually explict lyrics. You can almost imagine that this album was recorded over a drunken weekend in Palm Springs with the recordings being fitted in between a heavy party schedule. Great stuff.

Dit is de eerste CD van Los Fabulous Frankies, die de band een aantal jaren geleden opstartten om het serieuze en vaak benauwde karakter van de Rock'n'Roll scene de kop in te drukken. Hoewel het vanzelfsprekend een moeilijke taak was om al die komische podiumuitspattingen op een geluidsdrager te zetten, is het ze toch gelukt een full-CD (i.p.v. een beoogde EP) met 16 Franky-songs uit te brengen.
Voorzichtig, heel voorzichtig (bijna tergend voorzichtig) start de openingstrack Gotta Be Free. Zijn dit die lollige Belgen? Het is hoedanook een stevige rock 'n' roll song zoals er nog meer zullen volgen (I'm In Love, Come On, Marie Marie, Alexandria...) al dan niet met de bekende 'Mexicaanse' invioeden. Hun muzikale stijl ligt zo in het midden van The Blasters en Planet Rockers zo nu en dan voorzien van sax en/of piano.
Maar standaardjes schrijven of klakkeloos rock'n' roll songs overnemen doen ze niet. Wat dacht je van een smerige tekst op het van origine instrumentale Cotton Pickin'? Het nummer klink al gemeen, nu is het redelijk pervers te noemen. Of Larry Donn 's Honey Bunn? The Frankies maken er een krachtige bluesbopper van met mouthharp!
Maar zijn ze op CD niet komisch dan? Jawel, jawel, jawel! Goin' Down To Tio Joanna is een rhumba in doo-wop stijl, Ain't Got No Home is hier een jiver met waanzinnige vocalen van Franky Dell Rio en tekstueel lukt het ze ook wel, zo blijkt onder meer uit Frantic Franky's relaas in He Lied To Me.
Bovendien is het CD-boekje een grote mop. Heel knap dat de Belgen op hun komische, verkwikkende wijze een CD kunnen maken, maar dat ze ook op het juiste muzikale spoor blijven zitten. Het evenwicht tussen de lolbroeken en de 'serieuze' muzikanten in de band zorgt daarvoor. Zo produceert gitarist Franky El Uno immer onverstoorbaar de meest prachtige gitaarlicks (met name in The Wild Wan), ook op het podium en is de ritmesectie, hoewel vaak betrokken in de grappen en grollen, zich bewust van hun muzikale taak.
Los Fabulous Frankies bewijzen ook op geluidsdrager zeer aantrekkelijk te zijn. Muzikaal en qua show zeker! Ideaal voor je feestie. Van CD, dan wel live op het podium!

What fun! And, ain’t that what it’s all about?
Los Fabulous Frankies come across as fun-lovin’ rockers without a care in the world. In fact the group is a stage act from Belgium in which everyone is named some variant of Frankie: "Super Franky, Frantic Franky, etc.
The music flows naturally. There is no hint that the group is "working" at having a good time. Another plus: almost all of the 16 cuts were composed by the group. The obvious exception, Clarence "Frogman" Henry’s "Ain’t Got No Home" is sung with tongue securely in cheek.
Oh, yeah!, Also, the music is allowed to play itself out in a natural fashion. For example, the opening cut, "Gotta Be Free," begins with a guitar figure that takes a leisurely 40 seconds to get to the meat of the song. No hurry here, and the tension compliments the remainder of the number, which is very inventive rock’n’roll.
Not all of the music is burn-up-the-strings rockabilly. "Down to Tia Joanna" is a rhumba with doo-wop overtones. Every cut is worth repeated listening. Take "Honey Bunn" which is derived from ZZ Top’s "La Grange" (by way of John Lee Hooker’s one-note boogie), or "Nobody’s Guy," which shows Elvis overtones with an intricate guitar backing, or "He Lied to Me," which could have been a Coasters hit. Sooper-dooper!

We must admit, it ain't all pleasure and fun. We couldn't stick our heads out of the back door without being assaulted by hurds of chicks.

Uitermate vrolijke roots’n’roll uit België met oa de oud drummer van Sin Alley in de rangen. Bekende nummers worden lichtjes aangepast, een Franky-treatment zoals ze zelf zeggen. Wel een vrij cleane productie maar een kniesoor die daarom zeurt, want met songs als "Cotton Pickin’" en "Goin’ Down To Tio Joanna" is het feesten geblazen.
